Study Abroad
Broad international awareness and cultural understanding are essential to peace studies. Many majors and minors study abroad to enhance their classroom experience and practice their foreign language skills.
Students are strongly encouraged to study abroad with opportunities such as the GW Global Bachelor’s Program or other programs available through the GW Office for Study Abroad.
Internships

GW Global Bachelor's Program
Columbian College students are invited to participate in the abroad program, in which they gain significant international experience and learn to adapt to diverse social, cultural and academic experiences in at least two countries outside of the United States.
Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention
The Virginia Tech organization supports research and resources in violence prevention.
Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies
Columbia University’s peace institute is a leading research center on topics within international relations.
International Peace Research Association
The nonprofit association distributes fellowships and grants to scholars in peace studies research.
Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies
The University of Notre Dame's institute studies the causes of violent conflict and strategies for sustainable peace through degree programs and interdisciplinary research.
Peace and Justice Studies Association
The membership association brings together academics, educators and activists at professional conferences to explore alternatives to violence and share visions and strategies for peacebuilding and social change.
The International Journal of Peace Studies
The journal discusses various issues in peace research, including security systems, justice and basic human needs, survival for indigenous people, human security, nonviolent social change and more.
